The travel industry is really an aggregation of many related but separate industries: airline, hotel, theme park, rental car, activity, shopping, entertainment, cruise and more. This is probably why there is no official definition of the travel industry (at least to my knowledge). So here is my attempt:
The travel industry is the combination of interdependent parties including traveling consumers (whether for leisure or business), suppliers (airlines, hotels, cruise lines, theme parks, tour operators, etc) and intermediaries (traditional travel agents, online travel agencies, travel aggregators, etc).
Got something to add to this definition or to the rest of the information on this website? Contact me and let’s talk. My goal is for this website to be an aggregator of information from travel industry thought leaders and aficionados.
Who am I?
My name is Lynn Clark, I've been in the travel industry for 25+ years and I love it!
In 1995, I started showing travel agents around the resorts at Walt Disney World (in the biz we call this type of thing a FAM or familiarization trip). From there I moved into the travel industry marketing area for Walt Disney Travel Company. For family reasons I moved back to my home town, Minneapolis, and went to work for Carlson Companies in the Carlson Wagonlit Travel franchise division. Our division spun off and became Travel Leaders Group. My journey then took me to The Mark Travel Corporation (Funjet Vacations) and Trisept Solutions (VAX VacationAccess and Xcelerator).
In 2017, I left corporate America and bought in to Travel Leaders franchise in Milwaukee, WI. We have a team of eight vacation and business travel advisors.
I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in hospitality and tourism from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas-Minnesota. I am a Certified Travel Counselor (CTC) via The Travel Institute.
Over the years I have recruited hundreds of people to the travel industry and taught them about the players, resources, etc. I realized that if I captured all of the info on a website then others could learn about the industry too. I want to help attract and retain new talent to this amazing industry so that it is vibrant long into the future.
Speaking of amazing talent in this industry, check out the Blog to see interviews with some of the best people in the business! They share their history, insights and more.
